Fallen (2023)
From symbols like trees of life to tree huggers, we engage in an emotional connection with trees. For that reason, it moves us when a tree falls down. Inne Feenstra finds that field of tension, that we as humans assign meaning to objects, endlessly interesting. 'Fallen' is a video work that captures a dramatic event, a tree suddenly ripping open in a neutral way.
A unique moment is being staged. Almost never does anyone witness a tree falling down (naturally). When a tree falls down, it is a brief and radical moment surrounding impermanence. The sudden speed of that action contrasts with the tree's long life cycle.
